If you’re looking for a weekend getaway in the North Carolina mountains, spent in the most charming cabin, in a great location (greeted by the sweetest dogs) – Sky Retreat might be for you.
Or if you’re looking for a wedding venue
Yeah.. the wedding venue part. That’s what happens when you let your friends plan the weekend trip without you.
All sarcasm aside .. this weekend’s group trip and stay at Sky Retreat was super enjoyable and worth sharing.
Sky Retreat, which is literally a wedding/event venue, still worked perfect for our much needed weekend vacation to the mountains. It was our first group trip of the year and definitely one to remember.
Being RIGHT off of the parkway puts Sky Retreat in the perfect location.
It is a short distance from several trails and amazing parkway overlooks. It is not hard to find beauty nearby.
Also only about 30 minutes from Boone, NC.
Go ahead and plan a trip with your friends! Your part is on me 😉
We stayed in Cabin #6, which was the “last house on the left” and the forecast was calling for rain ALL weekend.
Greeaattt, we thought. But remained positive & ended up with gorgeous weather.
The “Retreat” consists of other cabins, as well as several tiny homes that overlook a pond.
We were told the tiny houses are only open for rental in the summer, as they do not have heat.
so of course we used them for our personal photo shoot props.
At the top of the hill there is a gorgeous ballroom, which I’m assuming is where all the wedding stuff happens.
The mountain/hill top that the property sits on overlooks a breathtaking view of the blue ridge mountains.
I can definitely see why someone would want to have their wedding here.
The weather ended up being almost too perfect! 70’s and sunny ! Whew !
So thankful, considering it was calling for rain the entire weekend.
Things To Do
As previously stated, Sky Retreat is located right off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, only about 30 minutes from Boone.
If you can’t find something to do nearby, you aren’t looking.
E.B Jeffreess park Is right around the corner, where there is a short hike to Cascade Falls (Falls Creek).
We obviously opted to chase waterfalls… despite what TLC said.
Cascade Falls is a lovely waterfall located off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 271.9, near deep gap.
The "hike" is only about 1.2 miles and fairly easy.
Not the biggest or best waterfall I've seen in the area, but still worth checking out!
The owners of Sky Retreat offer tandem paragliding. I strongly suggest it.
Seriously. Do it. For me.
If you aren’t looking for that level of adrenaline and adventure, don’t worry, there are still options for you.
The property itself is beautiful. A picnic on the hill would be perfect. And if you haven’t … just drive the parkway! I promise you won’t be able to without pulling over to take in the views.
Debating on making YouTube videos on my trips to go along with blog posts. Should I?
